News Article: http://www.ahherald.com/columns-mainmenu-28/third-party-voices/10749-the-trial-of-the-century

This article has something to say in the fact that no one in the West is paying attention to this important trial. The genocide in Bosnia is a horrific event. When people are finally being held responsible for the actions that had them invovled in the genocide no one cares to notice. We should as a nation be paying close attention to something this impotant. People cared about the Holocaust but why isn't the world seeming to care about this genocide. Some people don't even know that this happened, how should they be able to care if the don't even know about it. Our world is turning into one where no one cares about anyone but themselves. Compassion for others is something that is losing power. It's a world where everything we could ever want to know is on our computers or phones but we still don't seem to find the important things. Taking care of the human race is something that is we need to start focusing on. Most people are concentrating on work or small problems so much that they can't look at the bigger picture. the whole world is out there for them to see but the don't notice all the things that they could help with. Sure we help when a natural disaster strikes or when one of our allies is attacked but what do we do when a small country needs our help. It's time to start seeking ways to be more proactive in the world.

  1. I completely agree that people around the world need to spend more of their time focusing on helping other people in need. As you also pointed out I think that's if awful that many people who have access to computers, television, and other forms of media are not made aware of the horrors going on around the world. I feel that countries around the world need to start helping one another whether or not there are few immediate gains and there is a lot to lose.

  2. In a world that is so technology based we don't always use it to our advantage. If we just change little things in our daily routine we can change the world. It's our generation that has the ability we just don't realize it.

  3. Go Quinn! Yeah, and it is interesting that we are starting to use technology more and more for political matters, for instance the rebellions in the middle east and Africa. Many people focus on things like that and not genocides, because it would mean getting involved. We do not like to get involved unless there is a gain for us.

  4. Exactly, this is something that we could change. The gain for anyone that intervines in a genocide is the feeling that you've done something good and that people's lives were saved. How much money did we spend to kill Osama? We could have used that money to help millions of people. And although it is good that we've killed him for saftey reasons we took long enough to do it that the operations can run without him being there every step the way.

  5. I think Emma made a great point about how social networking sites have recently been used to create rebellions in Africa and surely we have the ability to use the very same technology to spread the word about genocides which are occurring now. I'm sure that there would be much more support from the global community if people who where experiencing the genocide had access to things like Facebook and Twitter so that they could share pictures and stories of what was really going on in their country.
